CCSO News April - Community Outreach Unit Around Town

Soon to be formally introduced, the new Community Outreach Unit has already been busy about town. Photos below show CCSO members supporting activities throughout the community. 

Events include the VIRGINIA WALKER MOBILE FOOD PANTRY, offered on an ongoing basis as part of the mobile food bank effort of FOOD BANK OF NORTHAST GEORGIA at multiple locations. This event was hosted by East Athens Development Corporation, McKinley Drive in Athens. Future dates and locations for the Mobile Food Pantry are available at the FoodBankNeGa.org website. Additional photos captured the Food Pantry Distribution sponsored by Phi Beta Sigma fraternity and The Sparrow's Nest, and Easter basket give-away at Twins Place.

CCSO Community Outreach members also supported the Golden Girls of Athens cancer ride, a caravan for the the support of cancer survivors in the Athens area. Also shown, as part of the Easter Season, the local organization Twins Place sponsored an Easter basket give-away for children.

Other members represented the Sheriff's Office at a meeting of Chess and Community, a nonprofit organization founded by local civic leader Lemuel LaRoche. The organization is dedicated to empowering young civic leaders in Northeast Georgia through four core principles: Academic Enrichment, Civic Engagement, Entrepreneurship / Career Path Development, and Cultural Exploration. Chess and Community uses chess as a learning modality for helping young people develop skills to manage impulsiveness and long-term thinking strategies.
