CCSO News April - Sheriff's Command Staff 2021

From the desk of Sheriff John Q. Williams - One of the most important series of decisions I had to make was how to fill the Command Staff.  I want to take this moment to introduce you to your Clarke County Sheriff’s Office Command Staff.

Chief Deputy Twann Leverette has been in law enforcement for over a decade.  He has a very well rounded skill set and is dedicated to service and professionalism.  He is a certified P.O.S.T. instructor and firearms instructor.  As Chief Deputy, he is responsible for many of the day-to-day operations within the Sheriff’s Office to include personnel and staffing.

Jail Commander- Major Jessica Goings’ has worked her way up the ranks in the Clarke County Sheriff's Office. Her training, education, and experience all played major roles in my decision to not only retain her, but promote her from the rank of Captain to the rank of Major.  The Major is the Jail Commander and as such is directly responsible for the day-to-day operations of the jail.

Jail Operations - Captain James “Jimmy” Carter has worked in nearly every possible field of law enforcement .  As the Captain in the Jail Unit, he provides guidance to the jail supervisors and is responsible  for monitoring conditions at the jail and making necessary adjustments to ensure both safety and health concerns are addressed in a timely manner.

Field Services - Captain Lillie Perkins has worked in many areas of the Sheriff’s Office.  Her attitude and demeanor, coupled with her experience and dedication to this agency made it an easy choice to promote her from Lieutenant to Captain.  As Captain over the Field Services Division, she is responsible for managing the service of criminal warrants and civil papers.

Court Services - Captain John M. Johnson began his career in law enforcement with CCSO, and served as investigator with the District Attorney’s office the last few years. Captain Johnson’s experience working in the courts and building relationships in the community and with attorneys and judges makes him the right person for this position.  He is responsible for maintaining security at the courthouse and making sure inmates are safely transported to and from court appearances.

Administration- Captain Tony Howard began his career with CCSO before working with the ACC police department. He is a lifelong Athenian with strong family ties to Athens.  He is responsible for bringing our policies and procedures into alignment with current best practices, helping to maintain our state and national accreditation, and commanding our Professional Standards Unit.

Community Outreach- Captain Tony Goings has been serving the community and the CCSO for over 30 years.  He has limitless knowledge of the inner workings of the organization. When I took office, I immediately began plans for building a new Community Outreach Unit to bridge the gap between law enforcement and our community, and with building community partnerships.  This unit  will be responsible for recruiting and training new deputies and detention officers, planning community events, building our new CHAMPS program, and will be focused on educating our community on law enforcement and safety concerns.

Administrative/Executive Assistant- RenĂ¡ Durie has been with the Sheriff’s Officer long enough that I am the third sheriff she has worked for.  She is a valued team member and something of a “Jill of all trades.”  As such, any list of her duties would be too long to print.  Just know that if you need to get in contact with me, she can make that happen if no one else can.
